NEWS - CORD REVIEWED IN HYPERACTIVE
With his slow drawing of every syllable, frontman Cord Carpenter seems to challenge The Wallflowers' Jakob Dylan to a singoff. While most bands that replicate the past fail due to unoriginality, Cord, with their expressive lyrics and simple beats, creates a new space. The album is built on broken dreams and disappointment. "Good Day," with its relationship going nowhere, seems lost between the past and future. Its simple 1-2 electric opening and keyboards tread on Strokes territory, but Carpenter brings you back with his voice, which falters on purpose. In "Gone Too Fast" Carpenter sings of resentment and a lost relationship: "inside when I can only see the side of my dark secrets, revealing to mass appeal." Heartache and bitterness never sounded so good. – Allie Shaw / Hyperactive Music Magazine / mar-apr 2006 mag.no 09
